1. Introduction
TubeNotes ("we", "our", or "us"), developed by kyusung studio, is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use the TubeNotes mobile application.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Anonymous User Identifier
We assign each user an anonymous ID (generated by Firebase Anonymous Authentication) to manage usage quotas and app features. This ID is not linked to your real identity, email address, or personal information.
2.2 YouTube URLs
When you request a summary, the YouTube video URL you provide is transmitted to our backend servers (Firebase Cloud Functions). The URL is used solely to:
- Retrieve the video's publicly available transcript/captions
- If no captions are available and you explicitly consent, extract the video's audio stream and transcribe it using OpenAI's Whisper API
- Process and generate an AI summary
YouTube URLs are not permanently stored beyond what is necessary to fulfill the summary request and maintain your local summary history (stored on your device via Hive). Audio data extracted for Whisper transcription is processed in-memory only and is not stored on our servers.
2.3 Usage Data
We collect anonymized usage analytics via Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with the app and improve features. This data does not identify you personally.
2.4 Crash Reports
Firebase Crashlytics automatically collects anonymized crash reports to help us identify and fix bugs.
3. Third-Party Services
3.1 OpenAI
Video transcripts are sent to OpenAI's API (GPT-4) to generate summaries. For videos without captions, the audio stream may also be sent to OpenAI's Whisper API for transcription, only with your explicit consent. OpenAI processes this data according to their Privacy Policy. We do not send any personal user information to OpenAI — only the publicly available video content.
3.2 Google AdMob
TubeNotes displays advertising through Google AdMob, including:
- Banner ads — displayed within the app interface
- Rewarded ads — shown when you opt in to earn additional summary credits
AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve personalized ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising in your device settings. See Google's Privacy Policy.
3.3 Firebase (Google)
We use Firebase services (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Analytics, Crashlytics) provided by Google. Data is processed in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
3.4 YouTube Data API
TubeNotes uses the YouTube Data API to retrieve video transcripts. Your use of TubeNotes is also subject to YouTube's Terms of Service. TubeNotes is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google LLC.
4. Data Storage
Your summary history is stored locally on your device using Hive (an encrypted local database). We do not upload your summary content to our servers without your action. Anonymous usage statistics are stored in Firebase in accordance with Google's data retention policies.
5. Data Retention
Anonymous user IDs and usage statistics are retained for up to 24 months. You may delete your local data at any time by clearing the app's data in your device settings or uninstalling the app.
6. Children's Privacy
TubeNotes is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Request access to your data
- Request deletion of your data
- Opt out of analytics collection (via device settings)
- Opt out of personalized advertising (via device settings)

8. Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. All data transmissions use HTTPS encryption.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
